Level 1 Spill Kit Training Course

INTRODUCTION

This course is suitable for any individual who handles liquids as part of their day-to-day activities and are required to use spill kits and absorbents to deal with day to day ‘incidental’ spills and leaks in and around the workplace. This course is ideal as an introduction to the topic of safe and effective spill response in the workplace.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • To provide individuals with the necessary knowledge to allow them to safely use the spill products that you provide them with on your site.
  • To highlight the importance of having a simple, effective, spill response action plan.
  • To stress the importance of preventing spillage escaping from site and the consequential impacts impact from environmental pollution
  • Ensuring responder safety before, during and following the recovery of spilt material
  • Includes a dry demonstration of some simple containment and recovery strategies

CLIENT PROVISION

  • Suitable training room
  • Overhead or pc projection equipment, screen, flipchart & pens, DVD system
  • Simulation area with preferably, a slope to a surface water drain and water filled IBC or drum with tap or water from hosepipe (training kit provided)
  • A range of site absorbents relevant to attendees
Duration 3x 1 hour sessions, approx. 55 – 60 minutes each
Location At client location of choice or the Spill Training Academy, Leicestershire
Group Size Maximum of 10 delegates

COURSE OUTLINE

  • A short video followed by a Q&A session outlining both good and bad practice in spill response
  • The importance of being prepared – a simple effective plan.
  • Golden Rules for the plan
  • Safety of first responders
  • Typical spill products and their uses (identification, selection & deployment)
  • Your spill kits/products – safe use and deployment via a practical ‘wet’ demonstration

Certificate of attendance awarded to delegates on successful completion of the course.
